Alicia McLelland

ASSOCIATE / Family Law

ALICIA KNOWS THERE IS NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL APPROACH TO FAMILY LAW.
A highly empathic and detail-oriented lawyer, Alicia believes that open and honest communication is the key to resolving disputes. She encourages her clients to be actively involved in their matter to minimize legal fees. Alicia has been a litigator since being called to the bar in 2012, with her first 10 years of practice focused on construction law and personal injury defence. In 2022, Alicia transitioned her practice to 100% family law and recently became a trained mediator.

Alicia’s passion lies in assisting clients engulfed in high-conflict parenting disputes including custody issues (parenting time issues), mobility/relocation issues, Emergency Protection Orders, and family violence. In addition, she also assists clients resolving property division, child support, and spousal support issues; and drafting Cohabitation, Pre-Nuptial, and Post-Nuptial Agreements. Alicia has achieved positive results for clients at all levels of Court in Alberta (Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, and Court of Appeal), as well as through alternative dispute resolution processes (mediation, mediation/arbitration, and both binding and non-binding Judicial Dispute Resolution). Her background in psychology and prior experience as a probation officer gives Alicia a unique skill set to understand and analyze the complex dynamics on a family law file and her strong litigation experience and prior training equips her to triage issues effectively and achieve her client’s goals.

Alicia was born and raised in Calgary. Outside the office, Alicia spends her spare time on her spin bike, practicing yin yoga, reading historical fiction, and painting watercolor.
